Almost 1,000 Moldovans got highly intoxicated with alcohol last year. 20% of them were minors, as 20 died.

According to medical authorities, most cases of intoxication occurred in Chișinău.

Over 50 % of the cases were because of taking spirits over the limit, while 30 % -- because of home-made wine.

According to the most recent data of the World Health Organization, a Moldovan averagely consumes 17.4 liters of alcohol a year, or about 180 bottles of wine, positioning this country in the world’s highest.
