101 years have passed since the union between Moldova and Bessarabia. On this occasion, Soroca Union Council congratulated all the Romanians.
This event leaded to form the Great Romania in 1918.
Of the 135 deputies present, 86 voted in favor of the Union, three were against, and 36 abstained. Immediately after declaring the union, the Kiev Supreme Council refused to recognize the act, especially that it had territorial claims on the north and south of Bessarabia. Likewise, Russia also expressed its dissatisfaction.
However, the legitimacy of the act of 27 March 1918 was recognized two years later at the Peace Conference in Paris. The joy of unity lasted only 22 years. This was because, on 28 June 1940, Russia annexed Bessarabia again on the basis of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact of 23 August 1939.
