A 24-year-old man from Gotesti village, Cantemir district, blackmailed an acquaintance under the pretext that he owns compromising pictures of her with intimate and erotic character.

The man has threatened her that he will disclose the pictures to her close relatives, and will publish them on social networks if he won’t receive the requested money.

The victim has given the suspect the amount of 1,100 euro in two tranches in February 2016.

Recently, the suspect requested from the woman 500 more euro under the same pretext.

Thus on 5 September 2016, he was caught red-handed in Cahul, while he was receiving the amount of 500 euro.

 As a result of the hearing, the man has admitted his guilt.

He is detained for 72 hours, with the application of a preventive arrest of 30 days.

According to legislation in force, persons guilty of “blackmail” might receive a sentence of 7 to 10 years in jail with a fine of 30,000 to 40,000 lei.
