Orhei mayor, Ilan Sor was placed in house arrest. 

The mayor is accused of swindling in huge proportions and money laundering, including from loans taken from Banca de Economii.

The politician declares himself innocent and claims that he cooperated with the investigators in the case of bank frauds.

Previously, hundreds of people, the majority being Orhei residents, have protested in front of the trial court, asking to free the mayor.

PUBLIKA.MD reminds that the magistrates of Court of Appeal examined the request of the defense, which is asking for the release of Orhei mayor from preventive arrest.

The decision had to be taken on Wednesday, 3 August 2016, but the meeting was cancelled.
