Moldovan weightlifter Alexandru Șpac got the fifth position at the Olympics in the 77-kg category.

The sportsman from Bălți lifted a total of 347 kg.

Earlier this week, another weightlifter from Moldova, Sergiu Cechir, ranked the seventh. He is going to receive 300,000 lei from the government.

The fifth place is the best result achieved by the Moldovan sportspeople at the Rio Games so far.

Șpac will be awarded 600,000 lei for his performance at the Olympics.
