The Moldovans boast to be an industrious people, however there are peoples working even more. The average working age here is 34 years: more than the Romanians’, Bulgarians’ or Italians’, but much less than the Swiss’ or the Icelanders’.
There are still many Moldovans continuing to work after retirement, and the sociologist Victor Dumbraveanu has this explanation: "It’s because they like, it’s because of poverty. The minimum consumer basket for many is bigger than their pensions,"
According to a study, the Icelanders work 11 years more than the Moldovans. The Swiss work over 42 years.
The Spaniards work a little more than 34 years.
The Italians are the ones working the least: about 30 years.
