Ballot system modified as Venice Commission's recommendations
A new round of debates on the electoral system modification takes place at Parliament's headquarters. They include deputies, representatives of civil society and ethnic communities, as well as members of extra-parliamentary parties.
The draft submitted to the debate states that any candidate running for parliament will have to present a integrity certificate stating his wealth and income. The document will be released by the National Integrity Agency.
The new amendments stipulate male candidates will have to collect 500 signatures and women twice as fewer.
The draft law on the mixed voting system, based on the recommendations of the Venice Commission, indicates 50 deputies to be elected on party lists and 51 - directly by citizens in uninominal constituencies.
The draft also provides for threshold reduction of electoral blocks to 8%. Currently, it is 9% for two-party blocks.
Individuals will be able to offer 50 average salaries on the economy, four times less than the moment. Under current conditions, the figure reaches up to 250,000 lei. And companies will be able to donate up to 100 average salaries. Parties are also encouraged to promote gender equality.
