A tragedy happened in the village of Burlacu from the district Cahul. A 16-year-old boy was struck deadly by lightning on a field. He was returning home after from bathing with some friends.

According to local authorities, the teenager was cycling at the moment, and the metal is a good conductor and attracts lightning.

Specialists from the Civil Protection and Emergency Situations Service recommend that people check the weather forecast daily and avoid field excursions when it is raining.

If, however, we are caught in the rain accompanied by thunder and lightning, we must adhere to some basic rules.

For example, it is forbidden to seek shelter under the trees and we must not hold or touch iron objects or cell phone. Also, during the storm, it is better to lie low/squat rather than standing or lying down.

"In such conditions people should not be outdoors in open spaces or in the field. If, however, the rain catches us and it is accompanied by thunder and lightning, it is advised to find shelter under some Isolated places and not under trees," said DSE spokesman Liliana Puscasu.
