The Republic of Moldova requested the United Nations to include in their 72^nd General Meeting the subject of withdrawing the foreign military troops from the territory of the Republic of Moldova. A letter attending this matter was send to the United Nations by our permanent representative, Victor Moraru.

In this letter send to the UN, Victor Moraru discloses the fact that the presence of Russian troops on our country’s territory is a threat to the international peace and security. The diplomat also attached a fragment from the SCEO’s declaration from 1999, where it is mentioned that Russia has to withdraw its troops from the Republic of Moldova’s territory by the end of 2002.

Moraru mentioned that since then, authorities from Chisinau put all their efforts to solve the problem of Russian army in Transnistria, but with no success until now.

The Russian pacifist troops arrived in our country back in 1992. They are also overviewing the military storages, where over 20 thousand ammunitions are being kept. Their withdrawal from the eastern part of our country began back in 2001, but was interrupted by the authorities from Transnistria, due to some tension with Chisinau. The 72^nd General Meeting of UN will begin of the 12^th of September.

PUBLIKA.MD reminds us that the Parliament has requested Russia to withdraw its troops and ammunitions. A declaration on this matter was already solicited by the Democratic Party of Moldova and adopted.

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova declares that the continuous presence of the Russian troops and its development in the eastern part of our country, is a strict violation of the Independence Constitution, the stability of Moldova’s sovereignty, neutrality and integrity. The Parliament believes that the constant presence of military ammunitions and equipment, in considerable amounts, on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, represents a constant threat to the security and stability of both Moldova and Europe.

The Parliament insists that the peace maintaining mission should become a civil one, with an international mandate.  They demand Russia to renew and finish the process of withdrawing its troops, along with its ammunitions, weapons and equipment from the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The Parliament addressed to all international organization and countries, with a plea to support the initiative of maintaining the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and neutrality of the Republic of Moldova, as well as to contribute to the consolidation of effort in maintaining the states sovereignty.
