Righ-hand man of Caramalac detained for massive tax evasion
Office of the Prosecutor General of Republic of Moldova along with National Patrol Inspectorate have detained today Andrei Gargalîc, a close associate of criminal Grigore Caramalac, known as Bulgaru, as well as his wife and accountant. The man is known to own a luxury hotel in Valea Trandafirilor park. They are suspected of 12 million lei tax evasion.
According to the officers the first thing to be searched was the family's hotel. There, they have managed to obtain various evidence linking the company with to the crimes.
"We are following all leads, searching their officers, as well as the houses of all suspected to be implicated in the crime. So far, the damage to state budget is estimated to reach 12 million lei", prosecutor Tudor Bordan declared.
Searches continued at the businessman's home.
"Officers have managed to seize electronic and paper data, as well as documents regarding building a real estate and transactions that have lead to damaging the state budget" prosecutor Vasile Golban stated.
The investigation upon Gargalîc has begun on 17 August 2017, when the companies he was administrated were suspected of massive tax evasion. The man's wife and accountant were taken into custody on suspicion of being accomplices in committing the crimes.
According to the press, Gargalîc is the right-hand man of Bulgaru and is taking care of his business in Moldova, for the past 10 years.
According to the attorneys, the companies of Gargalîc, owned by Bulgaru has deprived the state budget of nearly 3.8 million lei of income tax and 6.3 million lei of VAT tax.
If found guilty, the three people risks to spend the next seven years behind bars.
