Andrei Năstase plays dumb regarding his connections to Mukhtar Ablyazov
Maia Sandu refused to comment on her relations with oligarch Mukhtar Ablyazov, while Andrei Năstase plays dumb regarding the Kazakhs's company that sponsors their trips to Brussels and Strasbourg. The party leader has spoken on this topic during a press conference.
"If you can prove that I have been sent to the European Parliament by him, or any other person who you call rich, then we can speak about it. I have no plans nor intentions to have such meetings" Andrei Năstase commented.
According to an investigation made by British newspaper Financial Times, the past few trips of Andrei Năstase and Maiei Sandu to European institutions, such as the European Parliament and European Council, were sponsored by Ablyazov's company, where their interests are promoted.
The investigation also stated that Ablyazov is a close associate of fugitive Renato Usatîi and one of the most wanted man by CSI, Veaceslav Platon.
Moldova was brought to Ablyazov's attention in 2009, when he started having legal issues with Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan and Great Britain, for his part in the "Laundromat" fraud. This year in Ukraine, Ludmila Kozlovska established the The Open Dialog Foundation, financed by Ablyazov.
British journalists wrote that the two met during the 2004 Ukraine revolution, also aided by the Kazakh oligarch. The organization worked in the favor of those with political power, trying to paint Veaceslav Platon and Renato Usatîi as victims.
