Borders temporary established at 11 uninominal constituencies in Chisinau
The borders of the 11 uninominal constituencies in Chisinau were temporary established until the final decision that will be taken next week. Each has between 56 to 58 thousand residents.
As for other regions, some members of the commission suggest that three uninominal constituencies should be created, not two as proposed initially, in Gagauzia.
"We, in the Republic of Moldova, have two regions where ethnics live, that is Taraclia and Gagauzia. If we decide for the Taraclia district to gain a separate uninominal constituency, then my proposal is for Gagauzia to have three" member of the Commission for the establishment of the constituencies, Sergiu Corobceanu, stated.
Many were dissatisfied by the proposal, and some members have recalled that the number of constituencies has already been established at previous meetings.
"Our activity is lead by criteria that we ourselves voted for. Let us respect our colleagues and the set criteria that were already voted, because it has set the map and all the next constituencies. Ideas to change something will appear every day, " member of the Committee for Constituency, Eugene Nichiforciuc said.
However, Commission's President, Iurie Ciocan, mentioned that the proposal will be examined and voted next week.
"Any idea deserves a chance, it will not only be forwarded, but also argued, we have requested to be presented data upon which such vision is based, we previously also had proposals from the leaders of popular assembly" Iurie Ciocan said.
Taraclia district could only use a single constituency, although the number of residents is of only 35 000, while the country average is 62 000. The exception is made to preserve the political will of the Bulgarian ethnic group.
The next meeting will decide upon the five constituencies borders in the Transnistria and abroad.
The last meeting of the commission will take place next week.
