Faster controls at custom post. Five mobile scanners were installed
At the border crossing from the country there will be better checking. The five mobile scanners of the Custom post were put into operation after those were reassembled with radiant tubes that permit the scanning of the transport unities.
Thus, the custom post officers will be able to find the smuggling goods and the forbidden stuff easier and faster.
12 custom post officers were trained how to use the scanners that permit to verify the transport units very fast.
"To make the control we need two or three hours, but due to this scanner we manage to do it in five minutes", said Oleg Sanduleac, custom post officer.
According to the information of the Custom Post, from 2016 till now there were found around 170 attempts to bring in the country forbidden substances. The authorities assured that the transportation of the smuggling goods will be easier to combat.
"For the security of the country and the borders, the economy security of the state and borders, illegal trafficking of goods, those scanners are very important", said Vitalie Vrabie, general director of the Custom Post.
"Moldova is not the target, not even the transit place for the illegal trafficking of drugs, guns and so on", said Octavian Armasu, the Ministry of Finances.
The radiant tubes for the mobile scanners were bought from the money of the USA Embassy in Moldova. The tools costed 1,3 million USD.
"The functionality of those scanners with X rays represents a critic capacity for the Custom Post service. It will permit to assure the efficiency of the border, the smuggling prevention", said James Pettit, the USA Ambassador in Moldova.
The mobile scanner of the Custom Post were bought seven years ago. Those will be installed at the border crossing. The procedure of scanning a truck will take at least eight minutes. In 2015, the Giurgiulesti custom post found a huge drug smuggling attempt. Then, the custom post officers found 136 kilos of heroin in the tow of a truck.
