New 5 lei banknotes were released today on the market. The bill has additional safety elements, to lessen the risks of it being forged.

According to National Bank of Moldova, the design and size of the bills are identical to the old ones. The sole difference are a few new details that can only be seen under ultraviolet light.

The old 5 lei banknotes, will be usable along with the new ones and will, bit by bit, be taken off the market, due to being worn out or damaged, making them unfit for trading. At the moment, there are over 16 million of 5 lei banknotes.
