Cryptocurrency gets popular in Moldovan market. Business starts accepting bitcoin payment
Bitcoin becomes more and more popular in Moldova. One of the largest furniture stores in the capital began to accept payments in bitcoin. Company managers claim that they have made this decision because the virtual currency is getting stronger.
"Bitcoin has become quite popular in the world, Amazon and Ebay accept Bitcoin as payment way. We want to introduce this currency on the Moldovan market," said Maria Untilova, show-room manager.
"According to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, we can only operate with the national currency, MDL, so we pay all the payments in lei through a third person who is our partner," said Maria Untilova, show-room manager.
"Bitcoin is the only decentralized currency. As the system works without a central bank or single administrator. In other words, there is no center, which could change the conditions, the working principles and so on, and hence the confidence in this currency. Moreover, there are only 21 million bitcoins in the world. According to specialists, this amount accounts for 70 percent of the total currency, "said Veaceslav Cunev, an economic expert.
Bitcoins are created as a reward for a process known as mining. They can be exchanged for other currencies, products, and services. As of February 2015, over 100,000 merchants and vendors accepted bitcoin as payment. Research produced by the University of Cambridge estimates that in 2017, there are 2.9 to 5.8 million unique users using a cryptocurrency wallet, most of them using bitcoin.
