Survey: Initiative group on organization referendum against mixed system submitted documents to CEC
The initiative group on the organization of the referendum against the mixed election system has submitted the documents for registration to the Central Electoral Commission. The CEC has 15 days to make a decision. In the case of a positive opinion, the group is about to begin collecting the 200,000 necessary signatures.
According to the procedure, the supporters of this initiative also submitted the draft law for the abolition of the mixed voting system. Thus, if the plebiscite is to be organized, the Moldovans will have to answer the question whether or not they support this document. "We want to tell Mr. Candu that true democracy costs. I think Mr. Candu must fulfill his service duties" said Stephen Gligor, Chairman of initiative.
The estimate cost of this referendum will be established later. However, according to preliminary calculations, the plebiscite may cost over 70 million lei.
"It is a republican referendum, and as we began the process of organizing consultative referendum this summer, the cost will be the same for Republican referendum," said Alina Russu, the President of CEC.
