Andrian Candu met with delegation of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR
President of Moldovan Parliament, Andrian Candu has met with delegation of the Venice Commission and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), which is currently on an official visit to Republic of Moldova, lasting from 28th to 30th January 2018.
The experts will speak with Moldovan officials regarding the changes in the election law, namely shifting to the uninominal voting system and will draw a joint opinion, which will be presented on 16 - 17th March 2018.
”The current legislative framework offers all the conditions needed for free, fair and democratic elections to take place" Andrian Candu mentioned.
Experts have expressed their interest in the criteria and the constitution of the circumscriptions, of the mechanism ensuring comprehensive elections, as well as other technical aspects in the organization of the elections according to the new laws.
Multiple public debates for the election system chances were organized by the Parliament and Civil Societies.
The idea was forwarded by the participants of the discussion and were taken into consideration by the deputies. Moreover, all the recommendations made by experts from Venice Commission and ODIHR were debated and included in the electoral reform.
Also today, members of the delegation of the Venice Commission and OSCE/ODIHR will meet with representatives of parliamentary groups.
