Fiscal Service launched campaign urging people to refuse being paid under the table and request for their rights to be respected.
"If we take salaries and pay them under the table, the tax will be ignored."
The campaign will last for three months, time when fiscal inspectors will visit multiple economic agents. Employers and employees will be informed of the risks they are taking if they pay or are being paid off the books. Such cases being fined to 75 000 lei.
"The sanctions are very harsh, therefore economic agents have 90 days to recheck their accounting and to act accordingly" head of risk management department of Fiscal Service, Nicoleta Nemerenco said.
Those who accept to be paid off the books are also taking upon themselves risks, such as: lack of insurance, paid vacation or indemnity for children. They will also have small pensions in later years.
"Nobody thinks of the future. As long as everything is going well now they could not care less."
"They don't pay tax, their salaries are not cut. If an official employees received 10 000 lei per month and receive 8 000 after tax, then they receive all 10 000. Nobody is thinking of the future."
Some Moldovans admit to have received salaries under the tables.
"-The tax should lessen. -Were you ever paid off the books? -Yes, of course."
Last year, 137 economic agents were fined for paying people off the records. The cashed in fines reaching to 12 million lei. Statistics show that nearly 6% of Moldova are being paid under the tables. Most are employed in commerce or agriculture.
