Six people arrested for smuggling cigarettes, worth over 800 000 lei, to Ukraine
Six people, aged between 35 -60 years old, two of whom were previously tried, were arrested for illegally crossing the border to smuggle cigarettes. The suspects acted with a citizen of Ukraine.
The men transported Hilton Lilac cigarette packs in a minivan, hiding the goods among boxes of bread.
Police officers found 78 boxes, containing 39 000 cigarettes packs each, or 780 000 cigarettes, meant to be illegally taken to Ukraine.
At the same time, the suspects stored in a base from Ocnița, 25 boxes with Ashima Slims packs, each box containing 12 500 packs each, or 250 000 cigarettes, which were found and seized.
Officers have also pulled over a a Toyota Corolla Verso car near Sîngerei city, toward Bălți, transporting 15 boxes of Ashima Slims packs, each containing 7500 packs, equivalent to 150 000 cigarettes, which were supposed to be illegally transported to Ukraine, through the same trafficking network.
As a result, 1 180 000 cigarettes, worth 805 000 lei, were confiscated.
A total of 6 people were arrested in this case. Two of the suspected were placed in preventive detention for 30 days, two are under house arrest and another two are being investigated without deprivation of liberty.
If found guilty, the suspects risk to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine from 5 000 to 10 000 conventional units.
