Markets from Capital begun selling dyes for Easter
Two weeks are left to Easter, but on the markets from Chisinau are already being sold dyes for eggs. People are warned that the dye can pose a threat to health. Specialists urge for the dye to be purchased from specialized stores and the eggs to be as fresh as possible.
On the market, sellers boast of their large variety of dye, one package costing from 3 to 30 lei.
"We have all imaginable colors, but people favor red. You must also always add vinegar to the dye for it to stick properly."
According to specialists, most dangerous are dyes sold by spoons on the roads.
"We use a spoon, put it in packages and sell. -Is it natural? -Yes. -What is it made out of? -How should I know?"
People are warned to be extremely careful to what they purchase.
"I want the color to be vibrant and of good quality. It must not have any sand, or mixed with something else."
"You put the dye in boiled water and then dip the eggs in."
Other people use more natural methods. Natalia Boicu from Hogineşti village, uses onions to dye eggs.
"Once the water boils, you put the peel and wait until the water will gain color, then add the eggs for five minutes. The result is beautiful, a golden-reddish color" Natalia Boicu explained.
Doctors claim that dye of bad quality can cause intoxication and indigestion.
"People should look if it says "food coloring" on the package. To not buy anything from the street, by spoon. Those might contain some harmful chemicals. The dye must not reach deeper then the eggshell. Best way is to use natural methods to dye eggs" nutritionist Luminiţa Suveică said.
