Bad habits caused an 88-year-old elder from Edineţ to pass away. The woman was found deceased after a fire burst in her own house.

According to the police, the fire was caused by a lit cigarette.

"We suspect carbon monoxide poisoning. On site, officers from Edineţ Police Inspectorate have not managed to find any signs of a violent death. The victim was living by herself" press officer of IP Edineţ, Dina Fomin explained.

Firefighters received a call from the neighbors. By the time they arrived on site, the fire has extinguished by itself.

According to the investigation, the elder was also abusing alcohol. Since the beginning of the year were registered 405 fires, with 53 causalities.
