Young men arrested at the rally from Chisinau confessed that they wished to attack participants
The young men who were arrested yesterday at the rally from Great National Assembly Square, confessed that they were heading toward the crowd the cause chaos.
Police officers found in their backpacks medical masks, knuckle dusters, knives and bats. According to law enforcement, they met though a social media group that has 115 subscribers.
The young men have met yesterday in Valea Morilor park at 11:30 and then headed to the Great National Assembly Square.
"It was the idea of one of the group's members. -What group? -A group from the social media Vkontakte. -What did this group intended to do? -To influence Romanians to drop their...let us call it bad intentions. -How were you supposed to influence them? -Though a fight. Using bats, knuckle dusters and knives."
"I was on a walk, was going to meet up with a friend. -Why did you have a knife in the backpack?
-I keep it for self-defense. I heard from some people that a group from Romania attacked them and are beating all those they hear speaking in Russian. So I grabbed a knife to defend myself."
Still, some people from the group could not think up an excuse.
"I was supposed to meet a girl downtown."
"We saw on the news that a rally was supposed to take place and decided to meet up and walk through the city, to see it."
Yesterday, police arrested a group of 21 young people wearing masks and backpacks. According to law enforcement, the young men were heading to the Great National Assembly Square. In the backpacks, officers found medical masks, antigaz, knuckle dusters, knives and bats.
The investigation is ongoing.
