Two criminal groups arrested for producing and spreading counterfeit money

Law enforcement managed to investigate and destroy two criminal groups specialized in producing and spreading counterfeit money.
Members of those groups, citizens of Moldova specialized in creating USD and Euro, wished to bring into the country 70 000 USD and 215 000 Euro.
Their activity was documented throughout 2017, law enforcement having established that the counterfeit currency was produced in the European Union, then sold by 30-35% cheaper than the exchange rate.
Six people, aged between 20 and 50 years old, were arrested, four of them being placed in preventive custody. One of the group's leaders, 46-year-old, was previously sentenced for theft and smuggling.
After searches were confiscated 8 000 USD and 5 000 Euro, all counterfeit. Law enforcement also seized various devices used for communication, having opened another 2 files.
The counterfeit money were of high quality, possessing many protection measures, allowing them to be spread and accepted in terminals.
If found guilty, they risk from 7 to 15 years in jail.
