Last-minute Shoppers raided Markets and Shops from Capital today
Central Market was packed with people today. Many were rushing to purchase meat.
Retailers claim that most wished to buy lamb.
"Yesterday by 12 o'clock we run out of lamb. People came to purchase it, but we had none left. They had to order some for today" seller in the Central Market, Virginia Varzari said.
Those who did not manage to get lamb, chose pork.
"-I bought some pork. -Why not lamb? -Have you seen lamb around here? I will stop by Tighina to see maybe there is some left."
Some people even spend the last money they had to make sure that their Easter table will be filled with dishes.
"-Was it expensive? -I do not come often to the market, so I guess the prices were ok. -Did they offer you a discount? -No, I paid what I was told to, I do not negotiate."
"-It is very expensive, they should lower the prices, but before holidays they always rise. This is unacceptable."
In shops, the shelve selling lamb were also empty.
"The problem is that Farmers who grow lambs claims that the animals did not grow enough, because Easter is early this year. There was little meat and it was sold fast. Customers who come seeking lamb claim that they cannot find it anywhere in the city" seller Vasile Hârtopan said.
A survey made by "Date Inteligente" (Intelligent Data) shows that 41% of families are ready to spend to 500 lei for a Easter table, while each 5th Moldovan to 2 000 lei.
