Metropolis of Chișinău and All Moldova requests City Hall prohibition of Without Fear march
Metropolis of Chișinău and All Moldova requested City Hall to forbid "Without fear" demonstration organized by sexual minorities. According to the church, there are no moral or rational reason for such an event to take place in Moldova, a country with a mostly orthodox population.
"They are abusing the majority of the population. We consider them to be a threat to traditional families. This is promotion. They do not protest, but promote" secretary of Metropolis of Chișinău, Vadim Cheibaş said.
On another hand, organizers claim that neither Metropolis, nor other institutions have the right to forbid the event. They aim to raise awareness and tolerance for sexual minorities.
"This year, we will speak of love. We urge everyone, including the Metropolis, to speak more of love and of what ties us and less of our differences" coordinator of GENDERDOC-M program, Angela Frolov said.
Most citizens of the Capital claim that they are against such a march.
"We are bothered by it, we do not wish for such radical changes. We wish for young people to understand that there is a reason why the religion forbids it."
"I do not think they need this demonstration."
"It does not bother me. As long as the demonstration is peaceful, I do not mind."
City Hall representatives promised to come forward with a response. The 17th edition of the Solidarity Demonstration is scheduled for May 19. Last year, at the event participated 500 people. According to a survey made by the GENDERDOC center, in 2016, 87% of the participants reject the homosexuality.
