Survey: Pupils, teachers and parents support the introduction of school uniforms
Most pupils, teachers and parents agree to Ministry of Education's initiative to introduce school uniforms. According to a survey made by the ministry, 81% of those questioned believe that a uniform must be present in schools. A decided will be following taken.
People believe that once school uniforms will be introduced, all students will be equal. When questioned regarding which uniform will be best: 37% chose an individual uniform per school, while around 32% favored a single uniform model in the whole country.
"The decision regarding school uniforms will be taken after multiple discussions at the political level, in the Parliament, parliamentary committee at least, as well as with the Government and civil society" Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc said.
According to the Ministry of Education, parents will not be made to bear the expenses.
"We cannot make school uniforms additional expenses for parents. In the whole Republic of Moldova we have 17 425 students from vulnerable families. For those pupils the state will cover the expenses for school uniforms, amounting to around 18 million 300 thousand lei" Monica Babuc added.
The survey lasted three weeks. During that time around 300 000 students, teachers and parents were questioned. At the moment, school uniform is not mandatory, still, in many lyceum students must wear uniforms.
