The case of an investigation officer of National Investigation Inspectorate was sent to the court. The man is accused of influence peddling and misconduct.

The investigation begun after the officer was reported by an implicated economic agent.

The suspect has extorted, through a third party, 50 000 lei, from the wife of a businessman arrested for tax evasion. In the same day, the officer has also extorted and received from another two people arrested in the same case, 11 000 Euro. In exchange, the officer promised to influence the team responsible for the case and the prosecutors to free the men, which happened in the same evening.

Following, the accused officer, after promising another three people being let free, facilitated another 60 000 Euro being transferred on the prosecutors' account. Later, the officer suggested them to not report the prosecutors' actions, while a few days afterward, he received 5 000 Euro from the prosecutors.

The man has confessed and is currently placed under house arrest. Within the investigation, 25 000 lei and a vehicle were confiscated. If found guilty, the suspect risks a 10 year sentence.
