The impressive wealth of Andrei Năstase and Valeriu Munteanu: thousands of Euro, luxury houses and lands
Candidates running for Mayor, Andrei Năstase, representing PPDA - PAS, and Liberal Valeriu Munteanu try to create the illusion that they are modest and don't have much money, hiding their wealth. Moreover, the parties that support the candidate have spend impressive amount of money on their political campaigns.
Godson of fugitive businessman Victor Țopa, Andrei Năstase, declared that over 2017 he had no earnings. Yet journalist from Ziarul de Gardă wrote that he received 35 000 Euro from selling his luxury car and another 77 000 Euro from his wife, who lives with their two children in Germany.
Furthermore, the candidate indicated that he owns 11 houses, the most luxorious one being located in Chisinau. Officially, the real estate, built on seven acres, has a surface of 156 square meters and is estimated to cost a little over 2 million lei. The press previously wrote that in reality, the house has 450 square meters and costs around 7 million lei. Năstase registered it on his 80-year-old mother's name, who lives in a modest house in Mândrești, Telenești district. According to investigative journalist, Andrei Năstase owns a luxurious house in Bad Homburg town, Germany, 25 km from Frankfurt. In the same town also live businessmen Victor and Viorel Țopa, sentenced in Moldova. According to Ziarului de Gardă, for his political campaign, Năstase gained 300 000 lei as donations.
While liberal candidate, Valeriu Munteanu, indicated in his declaration that he had an income of 306 000 lei from salaries. The candidate owns a 105 square meter house in Floreni village, Anenii Noi district. When he was the settlement's mayor, in 2017 he gained an eight acres land. Last year, Valeriu Munteanu launched two companies, but did not declare them because they are not active.
Ziarul de Gardă writes that the main financial source of Valeriu Munteanu's political campaign is the Liberal Party, that spend 1.5 million lei.
