Japan Embassy continues to support cooperation with Republic of Moldova

Yesterday, the customs General Director, Vitalie Vrabie held a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan in Moldova, E.S. Masanobu Yoshii and discussed several aspects of customs cooperation in place, as well as the prospects for its development.
In particular, the discussions were focused on the draft Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of Moldova and Japan on mutual administrative assistance, on the basis of which it will be possible to intensify the exchange of information in the customs field. We remind that the initiation of the negotiations on the draft of this document was approved by the Chişinău Executive on April 13 this year, being subsequently submitted for examination to the Japanese side.
The purpose of the Agreement is to ensure the economic security of the signatory states and to promote the trade relations between them. The document is therefore intended to contribute to the correct application of customs legislation, including the prevention, investigation and combating of customs fraud.
The intensification of the exchange of information between these two countries is driven by the continuing increase in the volume of exports to the Japanese markets. Statistical data shows a 2017 increase in shipments to Japan by 32% compared to 2016, and the value of exported goods amounted to US $ 1 billion 90 million.
"The increase in trade also makes the need for better securing of transactions, so this document will be one of those tools that will help us to profile and prevent possible risks of fraud," said Vitalie Vrabie.
The need to conclude this Agreement was also mentioned by E.S. Masanobu Yoshii, who expressed his readiness to further support all actions aimed at developing customs cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Japan.
