Defiant gesture. Monument with Russian map printed on it built in Gagauzia
Defiant gesture of Gagauzia authorities. In Comrat there was placed a monument for the border guards. It doesn't seem to be something bad, except of the thing that on the commemorative stone there is printed the Russian map. Also, this service was canceled in our country six years ago.
The construction was built in order to celebrate 100th anniversary since the soviet border guards teams were created.
The Bascan of Gagauzia declared that the monument was built as the a civil society group requested and the authorities have nothing to do with it.
"We supported them. Many of you took the oath of the Soviet Union. There are border guards who took the Republic of Moldova oath", declared Irina Vlah, the Gagauzia bascan.
The Border Police chiefs weren't invited to the event. Instead, the veterans were congratulated by the Russia President.
"Vladimir Putin mentioned that the border guards service has a lot of responsibilities and it is an efficient one", said Lidia Romadan, the representative of the Russian Embassy in Chisinau.
Fredolin Lecari, the chief of the Border Police said that the Comrat event is a regrettable action.
"They didn't ask for our advice. Comrat is not a border Capital and this action makes us sad. How ordered this monument?", said Fredolin Lecari, the chief of the Border Police.
The Border Police Day is celebrated on June 10.
