Dozens of farmers benefited of modern irrigation systems
Modern irrigation systems are an efficient solution for the ones who want to protect their lands of drought and use the water rationally. The United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food helps dozens of farmers from the country to implement the new technologies.
One of the beneficiaries is Mihail Sclifos from Slobozia Dusca, Criuleni district. The farmer has a nuts orchard placed on four ha and says that this system helped him to obtain a better harvest.
"Each agricultural land needs an irrigation system to gain a better harvest. I am very glad that I benefited of this project", said Mihail Sclifos.
"The irrigation helps us a lot. I tried to intervene in these zones, because this s required", said Eugen Chiabur, responsible of the project.
Duda family use such a system for the plants they have in the house yard. They say that the flowers should be watered very often.
Such a system costs 12 000 USD, among which, 10 000 USD are offered by the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food.
" The United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Food promotes such projects to be an example to other farmers", said Raimond Jehle, FAO representative in Moldova.
"We should teach the farmers use the irrigation system", said Liviu Volconovici, the minister of Agriculture.
At the present moment, only four percent of the farmers have irrigation systems
