Art School from Cahul in ruins. Teachers are forced to hold classes during the weekend
Maria Cebotari Art School from Cahul has seen better days. The institution was never repaired, while lack of classroom forces teachers to hold classes in the house of culture from the City or during the weekends. Musical instruments are also outdated.
"- How old is this musical instrument? - It was bought when the school only opened, nearly 60 years ago. We wish for new musical instruments and a bigger stage" piano teacher, Svetlana Leşchevici said.
Due to the limited space, the school can no longer register students and cannot hire teachers to diversify the program.
"There are many children who would love to study. We used to teach choreography, but due to the lack of space, it was closed down" violin teacher, Ludmila Bejan said.
Pupils also wish for better illuminated classrooms.
"- Would you like a new school? Yes. - How do you imagine the school to look like? -Big classrooms, better instruments."
"I would like to learn to play the guitar. When we have concerts we do not have rehearsals because there are too many of us."
Still, teachers are proud that their students are in the lead in national and foreign competitions.
Teachers spoke of the institution's hardships with democrat deputy Anatolie Gorilă, who promised to help.
"I will make sure the Ministry knows of those issues, as well as the Government. The school's building is problematic and does not meet the requirements. I will try to solve this issue" PDM deputy, Anatolie Gorilă said.
The Art School from Cahul was opened back in 1959. At the moment, it teaches 250 students.
