59 out of 123 self-finances schools from Capital cannot pay salaries and bills
53 out of the 123 existing education institutions from Chisinau that are self-financed are late in paying salaries and bills. Interim mayor Ruslan Codreanu accused the Education department for those debts. Supporting a pupil costs the City Hall around 11 000 lei every year. Still, some institutions cannot manage to cover all expenses, because the number of children is smaller than needed.
"We have 3 institutions placed one near another, one with 1 000 pupils, another with 250 and another with 300. I believe that the Education Department should revise the districts, for an institution to now have more students than it can manage, with the capacity of 800 pupils, but to have 1 000 pupils, while other institutions to be empty. The buildings are empty, while another one is filled to the brim" interim Mayor said.
City Hall allocated 25 million lei to cover those debts.
"To support an institution that suffers losses, the Education Department and Finance Department were told to identify solutions to cover the teachers' salaries and pay the bills. Here, City Hall needs to support 58 institutions" chief of Education Department, Rodica Guţu said.
Head of Finance Department also claims that the guilty are those from the Education, because they implemented inefficiently the reform.
"Local Public Authority did not elaborate the policies it should have. A strategy was approved at the Central level and forwarded" head of Finance Department, Eugenia Ciumac declared.
In Capital are activating 302 educations institution, including 123 self-financed. There are studying over 88 000 pupils.
