Iurie Leancă: I would like for the opposition, claiming to be pro-European, to also show concern for Moldova's future
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Iurie Leanca held today a press conference where the official spoke of the main subjects recently discussed with European officials.
Leancă declared that along the internal problems, Republic of Moldova must also take into account the situation in the world, as it influences our country's future.
"We often use energy for internal fights, which is normal, but we do not think much that in the Euro-Atlantic region, in the world, there are some developments, some better, other worse. The world is very big and dynamic. This internal fight keeps us from thinking what is the future of Republic of Moldova. [...] There were recently some developments, I namely speak of the trade war, the tariffs imposed between the allies in particular, between the US and the EU, between the US and China, what will be the effect on trade? [...] The most important is that we must remember that without a clear European integration aim, without EU countries knowing of this aim, we cannot have a future, we cannot have a chance to develop", Iurie Leancă said.
At the same time, Iurie Leancă reminded the opposition, that claims to be pro-European, that along with the criticism over everything the Government does, its leaders must also forward clear ideas of Republic of Moldova's future within Europe.
"Everything that I and colleagues from the Government and abroad do aims to draw EU's attention regarding the region's future, especially Republic of Moldova's. All the visits followed this aim: to debate Republic of Moldova's future, to overcome the current situation and think of more important aspects. I would love if not only the Government will show concerned over Republic of Moldova's future, but also the opposition which claims to be pro-European. If it is pro-European, then it must not only criticize the Government when we go to Brussels, but also speak of Republic of Moldova's future within Europe" Iurie Leancă said.
Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration declared that during his visit to Bratislava, the main discussed subjects were based on development and consolidating relations with member states of the Visegrád Group.
"[...] I had many important aims, including the organization of debates. Prime Minister will visit this autumn Chisinau, along with a business group. I received Slovakia's assurance that Republic of Moldova is the only country benefiting from financial and technical support from Slovakia, which means projects for the communities. I managed to draw attention upon our major aim: Republic of Moldova's future" Iurie Leancă declared.
During his visit to Vienna, Iurie Leancă held multiple meetings with Federal Minister within the Federal Chancellery for the EU, Arts, Culture and Media, Gernot Blümel and former Chancellor of Austria, Wolfgang Schüssel.
"Our aim was to bring Moldova back on the agenda of Austrian politicians and to return it in Brussels. I had a good meeting with Federal Minister for the EU. I spoke of the priorities of Austria's presidency and what are the expectations from Moldova. Along with the main aims from the agenda, we expect Austria to take into account the latest developments from the Eastern Partnership especially the developments from Republic of Moldova. On another hand, Austria is part of the "old Europe", but Austria has this advantage to speak of our problem with more credibility and weight in Brussels. Mister Schüssel took upon himself to promote those aspirations of Republic of Moldova for European integration. Only through this dialogue, by exchanging opinions and arguments, we will be able to continue this clear European perspective for Republic of Moldova" Iurie Leancă said.
"My last visit was to Constanţa, where an important conference took place, Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum 2018. I am also glad that there was a special panel, dedicated to the situation from our region, with a symbolic title "From European dreams to reality". We debated the future of Republic of Moldova. As it must be done for EU to take a similar decision that was taken by Western Balkans, offering us not only a clear European perspective, but also clear data of when Serbia and Montenegro might become members of the EU" Iurie Leancă said.
