The victims of torture were commemorated by a flash mob organized in the Center of the Capital by the People's Lawyer Office. With antitrust messages in their hands, people held a moment of silence for those who were physically assaulted. Statistics on CEDO convictions are currently 125 cases.
"In the top are the poor conditions of detention, overcrowding, lack of medical assistance, which qualify as inhuman and degrading treatment", said Alexandru Zubco, the head of department at the People's Lawyer Office.
About 100 Flash-mob participants have urged everyone to say no to the torture, noting that the state is responsible for the integrity of all the citizens.
"The victims of the torture suffer, their families suffer, and the state through its institutions must have zero tolerance of torture", said a participant of the event.
"We say not torture and we support these victims who have suffered from torture", another participant said.
"Fortunately, I have never been tortured, but I have heard a lot from my friends, even adults, and I say to society that it is not good to be tortured", said another person present at the flash-mob .
As a sign of solidarity, people have formed a human chain against torture.
"First placement of human rights and not admitting torture, inhuman or degrading treatment in the penitentiary environment. Some prison sentences or non-deprivation of liberty may be applied but with rigorous restrictions", said Grigore Lupasco, the head of the DIP Training Center.
The International Day for the Support of Torture Victims is marked annually on June 26. Moldova signed the antitrust convention in 1995.
