The problems of the Moldovans will become a priority for the deputies, who will be elected on the basis of the mixed voting system. Thus, they will be concerned on the situation in their constituency and less on the interests of the parties. This opinion belongs to the Lithuanian deputy Algis Strelciunas, who spoke about the benefits of mixed voting system in an exclusive interview for Publika TV.
The Parliament is at its second mandate, being elected in the Vilnius legislature in a uninominal constituency. In his opinion, his country's experience shows that the mixed system is responsible for the people's choices.
"The mixed system is better, because some of the deputies elected to the Lithuanian Parliament are closer to the people. This communication takes place at least a few times a week", the deputy from the Lithuanian Parliament said.
The official says the introduction of the mixed vote is an important change for Moldova: "Your choice is very good, because only in this way, the deputies will be closer to people. It is a compromise, given that you have chosen only on the basis of the proportional system so far."
At the same time, Algis Strelciunas believes that Lithuanian MEP Petras Austrevicius only expresses his personal position when criticizing the Chisinau authorities for moving to the mixed voting system. These statements, contradict the fact that Austrevicius himself was elected to his country three times as deputy in a uninominal constituency.
"If we want to work for people, then their position is wrong. It is an opinion of one of the representatives and not the official position of Lithuania, it is his personal opinion", said Algis Strelciunas.
There are 141 parliamentarians in Seim of Lithuania, 71 of whom are elected in uninominal constituencies, and the other 70 are on party lists. In our country, 51 out of 101 deputies will be voted in uninominal constituencies, and 50 on party lists.
The law on the transition to the mixed electoral system was adopted with the vote of over two-thirds of MPs after public debate months.
