Irina Cerescu has been a teacher for three decades. A few years ago, she gave up her homework on weekends and holidays and put more emphasis on classroom exercises. The idea came to the teacher when she began teaching her daughters and she noticed that the girls didn't have any free time.
"In the four-year period I saw how they were doing homework. From the start, in the first grade, the second half when we now have homework with a larger volume than in the first period, they were having difficulties , they were getting tired, "said Irina Cerescu, a teacher at The Universe Theoretical High School.
Among the parents, the views are different regarding the plans of the Ministry of Education.
"I have a girl, my father finished the fourth grade, it was very difficult." She was also in the group, that is, after the lessons had finished, the girl stayed for two more hours, but these two hours did not get them to school and still learn by the way, poetry and reading additional texts ",a mother said.
"The busiest the child is in school, better for him.If parents do not have time to take care of him, there are extra hours in the school that he is in. When he comes next year he will be ready ",said a parent.
Psychologists say that the education system needs to be tailored to children's abilities.
"I think we have to take into account the personality of each child. There are very talented children who are considered very endowed. These children need harder exercises. On the other hand there are pupils who have a lower level of development "Here's where you can look at the volume of homework again and decide which of the tasks you need to do", said Ana Gavriliuc, a psychologist.
The representatives of the Ministry of Education claim that students should have more free time to develop multilaterally.
"We interviewed over a thousand students and the findings we have made have been put to our attention, because more than a quarter, 25 percent of them, daily need to allocate more than four hours to prepare for lessons",said Natalia Grâu, main consultant, Directorate for Education of the Ministry of Education.
