This year's plum harvest is so rich that farmers no longer know where to sell the fruits. Producers in the village of Văratic, Râşcani district, for example, are afraid of a damage. According to them, a solution would be the drying of the fruit, but the processors can not process too much.
Eugeniu Mensenin has one hectare of plums. This year, the farmer collected about 10 tons. Now he sells the fruits to the developers at a price of one lei and 80 bani for a kilogram.
"Spending in a year on a hectare is not redeemed. Small and medium-sized landowners are cutting the price of today's production", said Eugeniu Mensenin, a farmer.
Valentin Ţaru had a great harvest. The farmer says he has so far exported his production to Russia, but he can not sell it this year.
"They are buying them on land, but also those who buy them on land buy a certain amount. The rest of the surplus is still on the hill", said Valentin Ţaru, farmer.
The specialists say that this year the plum harvest will be 10 percent higher than in 2017. The forecasts are also positive in countries where we usually export these fruits, such as Poland or Romania, so they do not need to buy them from US.
"This year's climatic conditions in July were longer, followed by high temperatures, influenced the process of baking faster, the harvesting process is faster two weeks. This does not have a positive effect on quality",said Iurie Fala, president of the Association of Moldovan Fruit Producers and Exporters.
According to Iurie Fala, farmers will keep the fruits in refrigerators, to sell them later, when there will be more demand. At present, a kilo of plums costs about eight lei.
