Dozens of fruit trucks, especially apples, from the Republic of Moldova destined for the Russian market, were stopped by the Russian customs officers. The reason given is that the producers indicated in the accompanying documents are not listed in the list of companies that can export to Russia, according to mold-street.com. The trucks are blocked at the Ekaterinovka (Ukraine) - Krupeţ (Russia) customs point on Friday, August 24th.
Sources from exporters say a similar situation is at other border crossing points in Russia.
According to the director of the Association of Producers and Exporters Moldova Fruct, Iurie Fala, it is still unclear what happens and can not offer a comment. Instead, General Director of the National Agency for Food Safety, Gheorghe Gaberi, blamed the producers and exporters of fruit and added that they would convene a meeting with all exporters in the early days of the week on these issues.
About 90% of Moldovan apples are exported to Russia, and this year is expected to have a record yield of over 500,000 tons. Under these circumstances, any export problems in Russia could have serious effects on farmers in Moldova.
