The Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline will create competition on the Moldovan energy market, which will contribute to cheaper prices. The statements were made by President Transgaz Romania, Ion Sterian, exclusively at the Fabrika talk show.
"It is a securing of the gas supply of the Republic of Moldova. It earns the final consumer from the Republic of Moldova, whether it is domestic or industrial", said Transgaz President Ion Sterian.
Ion Sterian announced that the auction will be launched next week, and companies on both sides of the Prut can register for the competition. Construction works could begin even from October.
"We have the financial source to invest this amount, up to 90 million euros, in the gas pipeline." The gas will come here, and in winter, when the temperatures are high, the household consumer will have gas, heat, hot water. "I want to increase investment here," said Transgaz President Ion Sterian.
Within the same talk show, the Minister of Economy stated that the gas pipeline is an additional tool to negotiate gas prices with suppliers.
"We will only have the benefits of negotiating and following different offers, different alternatives. We encouraged to analyze the potential of our companies and I want to see our winning companies," said Minister of Economy and Infrastructure
Economic expert Roman Chirica says the project will attract foreign investors and depolitize the gas subject.
"Many electoral campaigns were that if we do not vote with the pro-Russian parties, we will not have gas in the winter. The subject is completely depoliticized, now it is in the exclusive area of trade relations," said economic expert Roman Chirca.
This week, in Chisinau, the final contract for the purchase of the State Enterprise Vestmoldtransgaz was signed by Transgaz Romania, which also took over the construction of the Ungheni-Chisinau gas pipeline. The pipeline will be operational by the end of 2019. It will have a length of 120 kilometers and the capacity to transport annually about 1.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas from Romania to the Republic of Moldova.
