Fruit producers still have a market outlet. From October 1st, Moldovan plums can be exported to Canada. Consignees must obtain an authorization from the Food Safety Agency and apply for an export permit.
Negotiations for this agreement were begun in 2015. The Canadian side wants to be sure that Moldovan plums will not contain harmful insects.
According to the Association of Fruit Producers and Exporters, the plum harvest this year will be 10 percent higher than in 2017. Every year 100 thousand tons of plums are produced in Moldova. One part comes to Romania, Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
"During the growing season, the plum orchards to be authorized for the export of plums to Canada must be supervised by certain quarantine bodies for Canada. Labeling of each stamp to be dispatched. the plum that is exported and the storage term should be indicated, "said ANSA director Svetlana Lungu.
