The possibilities of capitalizing on the Strategic Dialogue between the Republic of Moldova and the US, including the enhancement of multidimensional bilateral cooperation, were discussed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Tudor Ulianovschi with the US Ambassador to Moldova James D. Pettit, who ends his mandate in Chisinau.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi reiterated the condolences of the Government of the Republic of Moldova to the American people in connection with the barbaric act of terrorism, which took place on September 11, 2001, in New York, with thousands of victims.
During the meeting, the parties assessed the achievements made in recent years in bilateral cooperation, noting that the relaunch of the Moldova-US Strategic Dialogue allowed a better interaction in capitalizing on US support for democratic processes in the country and the implementation of structural reforms, in accordance with the provisions of the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, which remains the Government's priority. In this context, Minister Tudor Ulianovschi highlighted positive developments in the dynamics of relations between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America, due also to the substantial contribution of Ambassador James Pettit during his term.
According to the head of the Moldovan diplomacy, an eloquent example of boosting Moldovan-American relations is the deployment in Chisinau, on September 10, of the inaugural meeting of the third meeting of the Moldovan-American intergovernmental commission for commercial-economic cooperation). According to statistical data, the trade volume between the Republic of Moldova and the United States of America in the period January - July 2018 amounted to USD 55.9 million, Moldovan exports in the reference period increasing by 28.69%.
Minister Tudor Ulianovschi also highlighted the important support in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process and the continuation of "5+2" negotiations with a view to identifying a political solution to the Transnistrian problem, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova.
Ambassador James Pettit noted effective communication with the government institutions in Chisinau, mentioning the importance of continuing to strengthen the high-level political dialogue in relation to important topics such as economic growth and combating trafficking in human beings. The US diplomat also appreciated the efforts of the Chisinau authorities in the implementation of reforms and the country's development program, the achievement of the objectives assumed under the Moldova-EU Association Agreement, mentioning that their success will be even greater following the realization commitments on justice reform, the fight against corruption, the good conduct of elections, etc.
