An office within the "Bunici Grijulii" national project was opened in Edinet. Students of the beginning classes in the city will be accompanied by retired volunteers while crossing the streets, and sometimes they will lead the little ones even home. At the inauguration of the office was the leadership of the General Police Inspectorate, local authorities and several volunteers trained in the project.
In Edinet district, the "Bunici Grijulii" project has gathered nearly 140 volunteers. In the office, they will have the opportunity to meet to discuss and plan the activities.
"Come to see us how to organize the children better, meet them, take them to school, meet them at school, ask them how are they", said the president of the project", Vladimir Gavriliuc.
"Children are more in our care, parents have jobs and they are abroad, and we take care."
"We are permanent at school, we have a special place where we have to sit, the children go and we bring them, we stop the cars."
"Children are at school and we need to be careful."
"Such projects are extraordinary, as this project comes in security during the school year", said Edineţ district chairman Iurie Garaz.
According to the Police General Inspectorate, the project is a useful experience for both children and grandparents.
"We will involve our grandparents, who are the wisest and experienced people of us who, with wisdom and life experience, will be involved in pedestrian crossings near educational institutions and will protect children from falling into road accidents or incidents", Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, deputy head of IGP, said.
Volunteer grandparents are not paid for their work. Instead, a network of pharmacies and a supermarket in the country offered a discount card. More than 1,500 retirees are currently involved in the project.
