During the official visit by Chiril Gaburici to Romania in September 17-19 he said that the Republic of Moldova is counting on Romania's support in the modernization of the electrical infrastructure and the integration into the energy market of the European Union in order to increase the energy security of the country. The integration of our country in the European energy market is an important project for the country. In this respect, Transelectrica's experience will be more than welcome.
According to Minister Chiril Gaburici, in order to advance the interconnection of the electricity networks of the Republic of Moldova and Romania, the Chisinau authorities decided to accelerate the activities related to the interconnection project by constructing a back-to-back station in Vulcanesti and a new electric line Vulcanesti-Chisinau of 400 kV. Also, in the spring-summer session of Parliament, loan agreements with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) were ratified, and talks with the World Bank are advancing.
In this context, the Minister requested Transelectrica's support in facilitating the dialogue between the Chisinau authorities and the members of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity, a part of the Consortium created for monitoring the activities related to the interconnection of the Republic of Moldova to the European continental system .
Chiril Gaburici also welcomed the proposal to open a Transelectrica representation in Chisinau to have a more open and direct dialogue on topics of common interest.
"This will allow Transelectrica to pursue and participate in all the rehabilitation, modernization and extension projects of the Republic of Moldova's electricity infrastructure", said the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure.
Transelectrica's leadership has expressed interest in investing in Moldova. It also reiterated its willingness to provide the necessary support in the process of interconnection of national electricity transmission networks between Moldova and Romania.
"We assure you of all our support in the implementation of this ambitious project and we are open to helping you with our experience. Romania serves as a bridge to both Serbia and the Republic of Moldova", said Adrian Constantin Rusu, Chief Executive Officer of Transelectrica.
The interconnection of the Moldovan Power System to that of Romania, and implicitly that of the ENTSO-E Continental Europe, will provide the necessary premises for creating a competitive electricity market in Moldova, functioning according to the principles of Western European markets and to the advantage of its consumer end.
