The evolution of the Republic of Moldova's relations with the World Bank and the progress made in implementing the World Bank Country Partnership Framework were discussed today by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Satu Kahkonen, Country Director for Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for World Bank's continued support, including the $ 33.7 million tranche for the Operational Development Policies (DPO) allocated in July this year. Pavel Filip was confident in successfully implementing the Partnership Strategy by the year 2021.
The prime minister said that the Government has taken several actions to ensure economic growth and increase revenues to the budget. Thus, in the second quarter of this year, there was an economic growth of 5.2%, and for the first half of the year it was 4.5%. At the same time, the average salary on the economy increased on average by 33% and the average country pension for the first time exceeded the subsistence minimum.
These are the results of the Executive's work, which allowed the initiation of several social programs, such as First Home, Good Roads for Moldova, or Meal Tickets. The Prime Minister expressed his determination to complete the implementation of the reforms, including in the field of justice.
The parties also made an active exchange of views on the package of laws on capital amnesty, tax reform and business support.
At present, the World Bank's portfolio in the Republic of Moldova includes 13 active projects with a commitment amount of 327 million dollars. Since the Republic of Moldova joined the World Bank Group in 1992, over one billion US dollars have been allocated to about 60 projects in the country.
