The third round of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the People's Republic of China has been successfully concluded. The third round of negotiations took place between September 17 and 19 in Chisinau, and the negotiating team of the Republic of Moldova was led by the Secretary of State for International Quality and Cooperation Infrastructure, Iuliana Drăgălin.
During the third round, the negotiations took place constructively and productively, so that the parties advanced considerably with regard to the legal text of the Agreement, and as a result more than 70% of the legal text was agreed.
Also, most of the proposals submitted by the negotiating team of the Republic of Moldova during the previous rounds were accepted. Discussions focused on legal and institutional provisions, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures and technical barriers to trade. A new element included in the Agreement refers to the investment chapter, which will facilitate the attraction of Chinese investments in branch sectors of the Moldovan economy.
At the same time, the parties initiated discussions on the principles of granting tariff concessions. Thus, the negotiation team of the Republic of Moldova aims at protecting domestic producers and obtaining the elimination of customs duties for potential export products, such as agricultural products, as well as some industrial products.
The fourth round of negotiations will be held in Beijing in November. In this context, the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure invited the Chinese side to participate in Moldova Business Week, which will take place in Moldova in late November.
According to the data, 85 companies with Chinese capital operate in our country and the capital invested in the first six months of this year is worth almost 6.36 million lei.
