Monica Babuc attended meeting of Joint Working Group with Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine

The meeting of the Joint Working Group at the level of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine took place in Chisinau. The Moldovan side was represented by the Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, and the Secretary General of State, Igor Şarov, and the Ukrainian one by Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Pavlo Khobzey, and E.S. Ukrainian Ambassador to Moldova Ivan Gnatîşin. The purpose of the meeting was to analyze Ukraine's implementation of the recommendations of the Venice Commission on the new education law, to establish partnerships to ensure the educational needs of national minorities in Ukraine.
Several subjects were addressed at the meeting: developing manuals and study programs for national minorities; continuous training of teachers in pre-university education; providing manuals and artistic literature of Romanian language teaching schools in Ukrainian regions; implementing academic mobility projects and stimulating inter-university cooperation; organization of rest camps for pupils and students; furnishing cabinets with methodical material, etc.
Monica Babuc mentioned the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research's willingness to cooperate with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine to support the educational needs of Romanian-speaking Romanians in the Ukrainian regions. At the same time, the official expressed his concern about the delay in the adoption in the Verkhovna Rada of the amendment by which the entry into force of art. 7 of the Education Act of Ukraine was to be postponed until 2023. "Our duty is to ensure the right to a quality education of all Moldovan citizens both in the country and abroad. Thus, the endowment with handbooks and artistic literature of schools with teaching in Romanian is a priority for the Chisinau authorities. We also support the process of teacher training in Ukraine in the Moldovan training centers that teach the Romanian language to the Ukrainian educational institutions, "said Minister Monica Babuc.
Deputy Education and Science Deputy Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Khobzey, in turn, mentioned the clear intention of the Ukrainian authorities to translate the recommendations of the Venice Commission.
In this context, we mention that between 13-14 September 2018 representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research carried out a working visit to Reni, the Odessa region, whose purpose was to analyze the situation regarding the teaching of the Romanian language in the region and to establish partnerships in order to develop the quality of teaching the Romanian language.
We would like to mention that the Ukrainian delegation will make an official visit to the Republic of Moldova during September 20-21, during which they will also visit the Moldovan-Ukrainian High School "M. Koţubinschi".
