FIVE TEACHERS from Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics, investigated
Five teachers from the Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics (CEEE) in Chisinau are criminally investigated for passive corruption, after asking for and systematically receiving money from students. CNA officers and anti-corruption prosecutors have determined that teachers have received illicit pay from students to liquidate arrears in several disciplines.
According to the information gathered, the teachers would have intentionally created impediments to students who refused to pay for notes, especially those in the last year of studies, leaving them debtors.
For a promotion note, they would be required to pay between 300 and 1,400 lei.
Under the control of the CNA, more money was transferred to the five teachers - documented actions with video and audio.
Yesterday, two of the five suspects were caught in a blatant crime, when they received 1,000 lei and 500 lei, money for liquidating arrears on two items. The money was found in their service bureaus during searches.
The five people were escorted to the CNA for further hearings.
If they are found guilty, the suspects risk a prison sentence of 5 to 10 years with a fine of up to 400,000 lei and the deprivation of the right to hold certain public positions or to exercise certain activity for a period of 7 at 10 years.
