Starting October 1, pensions for nearly 95,000 people will increase. This increase is the last (fourth) step in indexation of pensions, a reform implemented by the Government. Totally, there are 85 064 old-age pension beneficiaries and 9 753 beneficiaries of disability pensions. As a result of this indexation, the average age of the old-age pension increases by 308.43 lei (by 20%, to an average of 1784.94 lei), and in the case of disability pensions the increase will amount to 415.24 lei (with over 40%, to an average of 1368.45 lei).
In the fourth round of indexation, old-age and disability pensions are revised between January 1, 2014 and March 31, 2017. The indexation will be done without moving the beneficiary to the territorial social security body.
"A complicated reform by which we wanted to correct an injustice. Now we have the certainty that we have set up a fair and equitable pension system. After this last step, we can say that we have adjusted the pensions affected by the devaluation of money in time for all those who have been wronged after 2000",said Prime Minister Pavel Filip, who initiated the pension reform.
The indexation process, which is part of the pension reform, was initiated in 2017, and the Government managed to close it by one and a half years earlier than initially expected. Following this reform, the pensions of hundreds of thousands of people were revised:
1) Pensions established in 2001-2008 - Valuated on April 1 2017 (83 643 beneficiaries);
2) Pensions established in 2009-2011 - Valuated on November 1 2017 (67 653 beneficiaries);
3) Pensions established in 2012-2013 - Valued on April 1 2018 (54 165 beneficiaries);
4) Pensions established between January 1, 2014 and March 1, 2017 - Valued on 1 October 2018 (94 817 beneficiaries).
