The capital has dressed for a feast. In the morning, several officials have laid flowers at the monument of Stefan cel Mare si Sfant. Subsequently, liturgy began to commemorate the Metropolitan Cathedral.
During the day several cultural events will be organized. And at 17:30 in the Grand National Assembly Square there will be a concert at which local artists will perform, including Zinaida Julea, Adriana Ochisanu, soprano Mariana Bulicanu and Osoianu sisters.
This year's surprise is the Romanian interpreter Connect-R.
The budget allocated for organizing the holiday is almost 900,000 lei. This year, the dedication of the city of Chisinau will be celebrated without fireworks. Interim Mayor, Ruslan Codreanu, announced that the decision was taken as a sign of solidarity with the victims of the explosion last week.
Today, road traffic on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard between the Ismail and Mihai Viteazu streets will be restricted, and public transport will run along the adjacent roads.
The capital celebrates today 582 years, a period in which it has seen both achievements and failures, praise and criticism. At the beginning, the city of Chisinau was a boyar estate on the banks of the Bac River, which had almost 10 peasant farms, historians say.
In 1641, ruler Vasile Lupu passed his estate to the "Sfanta Vineri" Monastery, in Iasi. Two centuries followed when the number of craftsmen and merchants increased significantly. Slowly, Chisinau became a small fair, whose accelerated development began in 1812, when it became the capital of the Bessarabian rule. In the middle of the 19th century, due to the architect Alexandru Bernardazzi, Chisinau is becoming a city. Then came the union with Romania. After 1918, several schools, printing houses, libraries, theaters and industrial enterprises are opened in Chisinau. The capital develops and becomes an important administrative, economic and cultural center.
Nowadays, almost 700 thousand people live in Chisinau.
